Door County Travels

On my recent vacation to Door County, WI I stumbled across a lovely elfish house!  I wondered how it could be so big, but then I met the elf...

Is that a Sasquatch?

I mentioned Sasquatch in my last post, not knowing I'd soon be having a close encounter myself.  Check out this photo:

Clearly this won't fool any cryptid experts.  My youngest created a short film for class.  And guess who got to play Sasquatch?  It was really fun chasing him and his friends through the dark woods on a super cold night.  But I had all that fake fur to keep me warm. No elves were harmed in the making of this film.  Later on, I got to attend the opening and my son's very first red carpet!

What is your favorite cryptid?

My wife recently pointed out this photo to me and while meant to be funny, it gave me a shiver.  Elves are okay by me.  Mothman - that's a whole different freaky story.  My wife found out there is a whole museum devoted to Mothman.  She will have to visit that alone.  I'll stick with elves - and maybe the occasional Sasquatch.  What is your favorite cyptid?

Getting the Family Tree - Fun with Tomten

My wife loves all things Christmas, so we put our tree up fairly early each year.  This year we had a light dusting of snow, which made the trip to the tree farm particularly beautiful.

My favorite tree farm has a fun elf-related activity.  They have a number of Tomten that they've hidden all over the property.  Each Tomte has its own name and new hiding spot each year.  It adds a bit of Scandinavian fun to the hunt for a Christmas tree.

Once all the Tomten were found (some are very sneaky), we took our tree home and decorated it for the holidays.  I hope you also can find some magic this holiday season!

IMAGE Art Show - East Central Regional Arts Council - Elf House

This past week, I had the chance to share my sculpture with some new crowds!  The IMAGE Art Show from the East Central Regional Arts Council was a lot of fun.  I'm very grateful for the opportunity to present a brand new elf house at the event.  Since this event was indoor, I got to go a little "wild" with owls, moss and mushrooms galore!

Here are some pictures of the house from a fun night.

The fun is always in the details!

Letters to the Elves

The Elves tell me they appreciate all the wonderful letters they get!  In Iceland (where our Elves are visiting from) people tell the Elves their wishes.  If you ask politely, they might help you out!  But never be rude to an Elf - they can be tricky and might sneak a troll booger into your bed.

Farewell to Elves

We finally got out friend safely on his way.  A few flights and a goat cart ride or two and he'll be home from his misadventures.  Elves make excellent road trip companions.  I'll miss him for sure.  I told him if he ever wanted to visit Minnesota, I already had an elf house waiting in my yard.  He seemed to be interested but you know the old Swedish saying - "there is no cow on the ice."  If he shows up again, we'll certainly be ready for him!

Traveling with Elves: Songs for the Road

I like a little music on a road trip.  Our elf keeps insisting Kenny Rogers songs are "better in the original Icelandic." I was going to argue with our hitchhiker when my wife reminded me of an old saying - “let the Wookiee win.” And it is true that elves can get a bit tricky if they think they've  been disrespected. And who knows? Maybe Kenny Rogers is Icelandic - google doesn’t work this far out in the wilderness. What music do you listen to on road trips?

Ribbon Cutting Fun at Ojiketa Regional Park

What a great day!  This was definitely a life highlight for me!  It was great to see so many friends and family at the recent ribbon cutting for my new elf house in Ojiketa Regional Park.

If you're looking to visit the elf house, it is a little hard to find.  From the Ojiketa parking lot you turn left towards the beach. You'll find the house just beyond the first trail head on the left.  The straw roof is a give away.  If you see the block and cinder shower house on your right, look left - the house should be visible.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the East Central Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
